That crisis lasted through the following year when the factory doors in Barcelona, Spain, reopened for another three-year run before the government put the company on life support again, where it lingered a few more painful years before mercifully shutting down for good in early 1987. It’s one of about 750 examples that Bultaco built from 1977 to 1979, before the factory experienced a full shutdown of operations. With that we present Bill Myers’ 1978 Bultaco Streaker. There are no streakers and no naked, overweight, middle-aged Will Ferrell to clutter your mind. So close your eyes, take a deep cleansing breath and let your mind wander freely to a happier place where you inwardly reflect on soothing, pleasant thoughts about vintage motorcycles. If you’re to proceed with this particular classic motorcycle feature article, you need to erase those mental pictures right now. Perhaps a clip of Will Ferrell, jogging au naturel in the movie Old School, pops playfully into your mind. The forthcoming EP, MIND, recorded at Diamond City Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn by Johnny Schenke (Parquet Courts, The Drums, Snail Mail) is out March 4th, 2022 via Montreal-based label Mothland. This is the story about Bultaco’s Streaker, a model that hit the showroom floor in 1977, and the only bike from that Spanish brand to sport cast aluminum wheels.īefore we talk about the Streaker, though, let’s cut to the chase: When somebody mentions the word streaker in casual conversation, the first thing that many people envision is a classic 1970s scene starring a naked runner streaking in public, his or her oh-so-vital anatomical attributes dangling precipitously in the breeze. “A blaze of energy onstage” wrote CLASH magazine, while The FADER called their 2019 release “razor-sharp modern punk that harkens back to the icons of the genre.” The band quickly became known for their precise and frenetic pace, which lays the foundation for Bushell’s explosive performances. MIND is careening disco, seductive R&B, rhythmic onslaughts and pure fun with a punk edge, packed into 14 minutes.īefore taking these recent creative leaps, Grim Streaker made their name in venues and DIY spaces all over North America (playing alongside METZ, IDLES, Surfbort, A Place To Bury Strangers and more). The result is MIND a surreal, subversive world of four songs that reflects on the current state of mental health, laughable social constructs and the inescapable working grind. Bassist Bill Dvorak and drummer Piyal Basu locked tightly into pulsating, danceable frameworks. ![]() Dan Peskin (guitars/electronics/synths) built a genre-bending brand of punk to match. Amelia’s performances became more vulnerable and more playful, yet still unsettling. ![]() This triggered a quick departure from their previous incarnation. In light of the pandemic, singer and lyricist Amelia Bushell moved to Vancouver, Canada, which channeled a new creative process for the now pan-american band-turning fragments of work written at their Bushwick, Brooklyn studio into living, breathing, virtual collaborations. Grim Streaker’s energetic strain of art-punk is the only constant for the restless Brooklyn & Montreal quartet. ![]()
